The Old Course: This is the second oldest golf course in the Algarve. Set in an umbrella pinewood and laid out in a interesting way to take advantage of the natural contours. It is from the English school of Course design, with the first holes easy and inviting with reachable par-4s. the par-3 on the attractive fourth is a Hole in One potential. Club selection from here will play an important part of your game, and straight shots will be needed. The ninth is an example of this situation. The back nine has three interesting par-5s. The sixteenth provided a 522 yard challenge for good length and straight hitting. |

Pinhal Course: This course is laid through the pine tree forests of the area and is set back from the tourist beach area. The outward nine holes wander through the holiday villas that line the fairways. The well-positioned bunkers make the course very enjoyable to the players, testing their choice of clubs and accuracy. The Par-4 on the 4th hole is difficult to achieve with water waiting for the erring shot. The Par-3 on the eighth of 149 yards is trickier than it first appears. the back nine holes have a more open feel but the slightly altered fifteenth will cause a problem to meet the Par-4 it requires. |

Laguna: Opened in 1990 and designed by Joseph Lee, with his typical design of widely varied holes. The layout is very different from the two other Vilamoura courses. Here the golfer can drive off more confidently, because of the greater width of the fairways. Strategically placed bunkers provide the main difficulty, though water features also provide a test. Lee may have designed a course that is visually intimidating, but it is not very long, so players have a realistic chance of a good score. |

Millennium Course: Vilamouras' fourth course is a combination of a remodelled nine holes from the Laguna course, together with nine newly built holes, to form the Millennium Course, opened on May 13th 2000. The course is particularly open, although some holes (the 3rd-7th) wind between pine trees and are similar to the neighbouring fairways of the Old Course and Pinhal. In this more wooded area, the fairways are narrower and require greater accuracy - while the rest of the course has a clear landscape enriched by lakes at the 4th, 17th and 18th holes. The 'tiger tees' (four different tees for each hole) raise the challenge and competitiveness of the course, but the wide fairways and greens ensure that the Millennium is an enjoyable course for all levels. |

Victoria Clube de Golfe: This is the most recent course to be opened to the public in the Algarve. Laid out on virtually flat terrain covering some 90 hectares it includes a series of constructed mounds specially landscaped to emulate the outline of inland hills on the horizon - a feature that enriches the course with a sense of movement and harmony. The series of beautiful lakes and waterfalls also helps to provide an attractive background whilst playing the course. Victoria Clube de Golfe is the sort of riveting course that rewards heroics and ambitious shots but punishes mistakes. |
